Would what you would find if you frisked President Obama’s plan for health-care reform?
Answer: He might be looking to cut a deal.
Hmm… With the majority vote in both the House and the Senate, are the Democrats really thinking about cutting a deal with Joe Lieberman (I-CT)? Now, it’s definitely NOT reaching across the aisle at all, but at least it’s a start:
The White House is encouraging Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to cut a deal with Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), which would mean eliminating the proposed Medicare expansion in the health reform bill, according to an official close to the negotiations.
But Reid is described as so frustrated with Lieberman that he is not ready to sacrifice a key element of the health care bill, and first wants to see the Congressional Budget Office cost analysis of the Medicare buy-in. The analysis is expected early this week.
“There is a weariness and a lot of frustration that one person is holding up the will of 59 others,” the official said. “There is still too much anger and confusion at one particular senator’s reversal.”
The White House disputed this account, saying any notion that officials there are trying to push Reid into cutting a deal with Lieberman is inaccurate. White House officials say they are on the same page with Reid, working with him to find the best way to move forward with reform – not pushing him to do something he doesn’t want to do.
Hopefully Sen. Lieberman can stand his ground and help kill this bill so a real health-care reform debate can begin. Unfortunately for Sen. Lieberman, those with the same ideology have also began to attack him over this issue:
At this point, Lieberman seems primarily motivated by torturing liberals. That is to say, he seems willing to cause the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in order to settle an old electoral score.
That incredibly unintelligent quote came from The Washington Post’s Ezra Klein… Way to show off your outstanding journalistic skills and principles.
*UPDATE* – December 17, 2009
I know this update is coming a little late, but I figured I would add it.
Absolutely unbelievable! This is how pathetic individuals can be on the far-left:
As a measure of just how impassioned the health-care reform debate has become as it heads into the critical pre-Christmas stretch, consider this: Blogger and liberal activist Jane Hamsher has launched a drive to boot Sen. Joe Lieberman’s wife from her role as an international spokesperson for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the breast cancer charity that organizes the annual Race for the Cure fundraising run.
Hamsher sent a letter to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure on Friday calling for Hadassah Lieberman’s ouster and expressing “great concern” over her “counterproductive” role as a global ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Apparently if you don’t fall in line with the rest of the Democratic Party, you will be demonized too! Very typical: Liberals want the Republicans to move towards the center, but if a Democrat DARE move toward the center… It’s war on him as well. Hmm, a little bit of hypocrisy there? Very much so.
