While November’s election brought a tsunami of change to Michigan policies, some incumbents are untouchable. So untouchable, apparently, that they openly read girlie magazines on their trips to and from Washington. Detroit Congressman John Conyers was caught on camera in a late July flight to DC this summer ogling a Playboy magazine.
The video and pictures – first posted by ex-Detroit News reporter and New York Times Pulitzer Prize winner Charlie LeDuff on his Facebook page – were taken by an anonymous passenger seated in the same row as the 81-year old congressman. Conyers – in his aisle seat – is shown flipping though pages showing two nude gal pals in the August issue of Playboy. And he also apparently reads Hefner’s product for the articles! He appears to linger on an article titled “La Chatte” by Maureen Gibbon.
Remember when Rep. Conyers admitted that there was no point in reading a 1,000+ page health-care reform bill? Now we know why… It did not include any photographs that fulfilled his “needs”.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the most depressing news. The most depressing news would be the fact that the Michiganders in his congressional district are dumb enough to reelect him year after year.
Still waiting for that miracle in Michigan’s 14th congressional district…
Wonder what you would find if you frisked the comments made by U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX)?
Answer: Something went wrong during her education process.
Reminder: This lady somehow made it through Yale and onto the University of Virginia Law School…
Moe Lane – from Red State – did the congresswoman a favor and pointed out a slight flaw:
For the benefit of any natural born damned fools that may have wandered in: there is no South Vietnam anymore. It was conquered by North Vietnam in 1975, shortly after a Democratic Congress – yes, the same political party as Rep. Jackson-Lee’s – defunded the defense of South Vietnam, in defiance of our promises made to that unhappy country as part of the cease-fire that ended the Vietnam War. They are not living together side by side as two countries. Because, well, again, the North Vietnamese conquered the South.
Oops! Does Rep. Jackson-Lee’s ignorance stop there? Of course not! The congresswoman told the NAACP this week that those who wore sheets lifted them off and are now wearing tea party clothing:
And I thank you professor very much. I’m going to be engaging you with those very powerful numbers that you have offered on what the tea party recognizes, uh, or is recognized as. Might I add my own P.S.? All those who wore sheets a long time ago have now lifted them off and started wearing [applause], uh, clothing, uh, with a name, say, I am part of the tea party. Don’t you be fooled. [voices: "That's right.", applause] Those who used to wear sheets are now being able to walk down the aisle and speak as a patriot because you will not speak loudly about the lack of integrity of this movement. Don’t let anybody tell you that those who spit on us as we were walking to vote on a health care bill for all of America or those who said Congresswoman Jackson-Lee’s braids were too tight in her hair had anything to do with justice and equality and empowerment of the American people. Don’t let them fool you on that [applause]….
Okay… Now this woman is just being a complete idiot. Plus, I am glad she brought up the “people spit on us as we were walking to vote on a health care bill” and “called us racial slurs” issue, because it is completely FALSE. The ignorance of some of these liberals in office perplexes me at times. Andrew Breitbart already put that claim to rest when he offered a $100,000 reward to anyone producing such evidence. In the end, the place was crawling with cameras and no one has stepped forward… Funny huh?
Still not enough proof that this congresswoman lacked something in her education process? In 2005, she asked if the Mars Pathfinder had taken an image of the flag planted there in 1969 by Neil Armstrong. Seriously!?
And to think… These are the people in office that truly believe they can run one-sixth of our economy (health-care) and regulate our financial system. I don’t know about you, but this is quite frightening!
Personally, I think this post is enough proof that this woman needs to be removed from office. Lucky for us, there’s a Republican running against her! Please, click below and support John Faulk for Congress:
[...] the law may “remove members of Congress and Congressional staff” from their current coverage, in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, before any alternatives are available.
[...]
The law apparently bars members of Congress from the federal employees health program, on the assumption that lawmakers should join many of their constituents in getting coverage through new state-based markets known as insurance exchanges.
But the research service found that this provision was written in an imprecise, confusing way, so it is not clear when it takes effect.
The new exchanges do not have to be in operation until 2014. But because of a possible “drafting error,” the report says, Congress did not specify an effective date for the section excluding lawmakers from the existing program.
Under well-established canons of statutory interpretation, the report said, “a law takes effect on the date of its enactment” unless Congress clearly specifies otherwise. And Congress did not specify any other effective date for this part of the health care law. The law was enacted when President Obama signed it three weeks ago.
The unintended consequences of this enormous health-care bill was inevitable. Unfortunately, the corrupt liberal mainstream media decided to report on what’s actually in the bill after the massive government expansion/entitlement passed.
Excellent point by the NYT: “If they did not know exactly what they were doing to themselves, did lawmakers who wrote and passed the bill fully grasp the details of how it would influence the lives of other Americans?” Hmm… That is a good question and like I said above, it would have been nice if they decided to do their jobs as journalists beforehand.
Could this be more reason to repeal this monstrosity called “Obama-Care”? I think I will go ahead and label this another EPIC FAIL created by the Democratic Party. Not looking good… They have been on a roll lately!
With just a few days to go before the end of this recess, House Democrats are cautiously optimistic that they could get through it without a single retirement announcement. That said, there is still a concern that some important incumbents in districts that they are uniquely suited could call it quits. At the top of the concern list this week: Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak. The Democrat best known this year as the Democrat who delivered the winning margin of votes for the president’s health-care reform bill is said to be simply exhausted. The criticism he received — first from the left, and then from the right — has worn him and his family out. And if he had to make the decision now, he’d probably NOT run. As of this writing, a bunch of senior Democrats (many of the same ones who twisted his arm on the health care vote) are trying to talk him into running. The filing deadline in Michigan is still a month away, but veterans of that state’s politics are skeptical anyone other than Stupak can hold that district in this political climate.
Personally, I will be bummed if this rumor ends up to be true… I want to feel the sweet satisfaction of seeing him kicked out of office!
Side-Note: There has been a lot of chatter on other blogs about Rep. Stupak possibly running for governor of Michigan. This will not happen. Here in Michigan – my home state – each candidate needs to collect 15,000 petition signatures in order to make it on the primary ballot for governor. Unfortunately for Rep. Stupak, if he wanted to make a run for the governor’s seat, he would need to collect all those signatures by the May 11, 2010 deadline. Reminder: That’s a little over a month away.
*UPDATE* – April 9, 2010 – 5:30 PM.
It’s official folks! U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) is retiring.
Nine-term Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Michigan, will reveal Friday he is retiring from Congress, several Democratic sources close to Stupak tell CNN.
The anti-abortion Democrat has been facing opposition from both the right and the left for his 11th hour deal with the White House that he says bans federal funding for abortion. The deal ultimately led to his decisive vote in favor of the health care bill.
Stupak first informed Democratic leaders last week that he was considering retiring. He has received calls from President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others urging him to run again.
Wonder what you would find if you frisked U.S. Rep. Phil hare (D-FL) at one of his town hall meetings?
Answer: He admits that he does not care about the United States Constitution.
Just wonderful… It’s always reassuring to see an elected official admit that he does not care about our country’s Constitution. Glad he took an oath to defend a document that he’s obviously not took the time to read.
Future reminder for Rep. Hare (D-IL): “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” comes from the Declaration of Independence… Different document there buddy. This is why Congress has the lowest approval rating it has ever seen and why America does not trust politicians.
Side-Note: Rep. Hare (D-IL) claims he read the 2,000+ page monstrosity THREE times… Yeah, and I’m 6’8″ and about to get drafted first round to the NBA.
Wonder what you would find if you frisked the interview between Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) and WJR’s Paul W. Smith?
Answer: According to Rep. Dingell, it will take awhile for Obama-Care to “control people.”
If you don’t want to listen to the sound clip posted above, here’s the transcript:
Let me remind you this [Americans allegedly dying because of lack of universal health care] has been going on for years. We are bringing it to a halt. The harsh fact of the matter is when you’re going to pass legislation that will cover 300 [million] American people in different ways it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people.
Hmm…
Personally, I know exactly how I interpret this socialist-talk that spewed from the mouth of Rep. Dingell, but Ed Morrissey – from Hot Air – provides both sides of the argument better than I do/would:
It may be the mother of all Freudian slips (which is itself a Freudian joke, if you didn’t catch it). “Control the people” could have one of two contexts here, of course; it could mean patient management, or it could be taken literally. It would take quite a while to “control” 300 million people in either sense of the phrase. Of course, in either sense, it’s one of the good reasons why the government shouldn’t be in the health-care business. The private sector is better designed to manage patients.
But of course, the private sector isn’t designed to “control the people” in the literal sense. You have to have government to do that, and people in charge who believe they should be in charge of “control[ling] the people” instead of supporting and defending the Constitution.
Either way… It doesn’t escape the fact that I am embarrassed that this Congressman is from my home state of Michigan. I know… I know… What can you expect? Unfortunately, his congressional district is around the Detroit area and we all know how they love their Democrats around there.
Wonder what you would find if you frisked the latest political advertisement by the National Republican Senatorial Committee?
Answer: A summary of the Democrat’s “broken promises.”
Props to the NRSC! This was a brilliant advertisement that highlights many of the corrupt and unethical actions of the Democratic Party – including President Obama – over the last year or so. Now if only they would place this advertisement on television… Oh, I’d love it!
Overall, I liked how the NRSC focused on a lot of the corrupt-style politics performed by the House Democrats. Personally, I thought the last 15 second of the advertisement was the best, because it’s one hell of a political uppercut as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) describes the Democratic House as the most honest, ethical, and transparent Congress. Let’s face it, the words used by the NRSC at the end of the ad describe it best: The most corrupt, secretive, and unethical Congress.
Keep these type of political advertisements coming NRSC and hopefully it will lead to an amazing Conservative victory 2010!
Voter unhappiness with Congress has reached the highest level ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports as 71% now say the legislature is doing a poor job.
That’s up ten points from the previous high of 61% reached a month ago.
Only 10% of voters say Congress is doing a good or excellent job.
Nearly half of Democratic voters (48%) now give Congress a poor rating, up 17 points since January. The vast majority of Republicans and voters not affiliated with either party also give Congress poor ratings.
Seventy percent (70%) of voters say Congress has not passed any legislation that would significantly improve life for Americans, up 10 points over the past month and the highest level of dissatisfaction measured in regular tracking in over three years. Only 15% say Congress has passed such legislation.
Forty percent (40%) of voters nationwide now say it is at least somewhat likely Congress will seriously address the most important issues facing the nation. That’s down from 59% last March. Only 9% say it is Very Likely Congress will address these issues.
EPIC FAIL.
Perhaps it’s ridiculous statements like these made by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) that largely contributes to Congress’ negative perception.
Wonder what you would find if you frisked President Obama and his plan on passing Obama-care?
Answer: Now he wants Congress to SLOW DOWN on health-care!
Like I said before, if Scott Brown won the Massachusetts special Senate election, a political tidal wave will wash over Washington DC. Turns out, I was right. Although, I got to be honest… I never thought it would make its way to the Oval Office. ABC News reports:
President Obama warned Democrats in Congress today not to “jam” a health care reform bill through now that they’ve lost their commanding majority in the Senate, and said they must wait for newly elected Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown to be sworn into office.
[...]
The president said there are “core elements” to the health care legislation that both Republican and Democrats agree on and they must come together to work for comprehensive reform.
“We know that we need insurance reform, that the health insurance companies are taking advantage of people. We know that we have to have some form of cost containment because if we don’t, then our budgets are going to blow up,” he said. “And we know that small businesses are going to need help so that they can provide health insurance for their families. Those are the core, some of the core elements of this bill.”
It’s good that President Obama wants to slow down the health-care reform process in order to get Scott Brown sworn in, but what will happen afterward is the big question. Has President Obama hit a wall of political reality and using this moment to calm down some of the anger amongst the American People? Or is he just using this time to explore other possible ways to jam this monstrosity of a health-care bill down our throats?
The head of C-SPAN has implored Congress to open up the last leg of health care reform negotiations to the public, as top Democrats lay plans to hash out the final product among themselves.
C-SPAN CEO Brian Lamb wrote to leaders in the House and Senate Dec. 30 urging them to open “all important negotiations, including any conference committee meetings,” to televised coverage on his network.
“The C-SPAN networks will commit the necessary resources to covering all of the sessions LIVE and in their entirety,” he wrote.
Congressional leaders, however, reportedly are expected to bypass the traditional conference committee process, in which lawmakers from both parties and chambers meet to reconcile differences between the House and Senate versions of a bill. Instead, The Associated Press reports that top Democrats at the House, Senate and White House will figure out the final product in three-way talks before sending it back to both chambers for a final vote.
This format would seem ideal for closed-door meetings, which congressional Democrats have used many times to figure out sensitive provisions in the health care bill — though President Obama pledged during the campaign to open up health care talks to C-SPAN’s cameras.
Hmm… Will the Democrats comply with Brian Lamb’s request? Of course not! They much rather hide from the C-SPAN cameras and pass out hundreds of millions of dollars in favors/bribes to buy votes from fellow Democrats. This doesn’t sound like the type of transparency that the American people voted for when Barack Obama kept promising this:
Ugh… Are we allowed to say that he lied yet?
Side-Note: If there’s one thing that President Obama has reformed while in office, it would be the definition of ‘transparency’. Here’s the new definition:
Votes in the dead of night, committee processes that produce strawman bills, and Senators scurrying from camera lenses to dole out favors and cash to one another.
