Wonder what you would find if you frisked Taunton Public Schools?
Answer: Apparently, drawing Jesus on a cross is considered ‘too violent’ for school.
Ugh! I swear… If political correctness had physical features I would love to kick it sometimes. This is unbelievable:
An 8-year-old elementary school student from Taunton was sent home from school and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation after drawing a stick figure Jesus on a cross because the teacher thought it was too violent.
The second-grader made the drawing Dec. 2 after his teacher asked children to sketch something that reminded them of Christmas.
The teacher was alarmed because the boy drew Xs for Jesus’ eyes.
Honestly, what goes through one’s mind to actually view this drawing (displayed on the left in photo above) as ‘too violent’ for school!? Just use a little bit of common sense people… Is that too much to asked for? Ed Morrissey from Hot Air sums this one up quite nicely:
It’s hard to imagine a more clueless, knee-jerk response than the one given by this school. First, Jesus on a crucifix has been a symbol of Christianity for two millenia. Since Christmas is in fact a Christian holiday, at least nominally, the crucifix in this drawing clearly came from Christian symbolism and not some latent threat of a reenactment of the last scenes of Spartacus from a second grader. How dense or deliberately obtuse must a teacher and administrators be not to understand the symbolism involved in this drawing?
Agreed.
Side-Note: I feel bad for this kid, because I can relate. All through grade school I was known for being quite artistic. Back in second grade, I got in trouble with my teacher for drawing Carnage (a character from Spider-Man) and I was sent to the back of the room to look up the definition – haha. Also, in sixth grade I would draw whatever my classmates wanted and of course we all know what 11 year-olds like: blood, guts, and action figures – haha. Now your going to tell me Jesus on a cross is ‘too violent’? Honestly, I’m curious… Did this teacher live in a bubble all her life?
