Wonder what you would find if you frisked the Obama Administration and the liberal mainstream media?
Answer: As expected, they are trying to downplay the significance of the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial elections.
3… 2… 1… GO!… And they’re off!
That’s right folks. The liberal mainstream media are busy bees this morning trying their best to downplay the elections from last night. Are we shocked? Personally, I’m not! I predicted the whole thing, but than again it wasn’t that hard. It was like predicting a dragster will go straight rather than turn, haha.
I wonder how the White House was taking the shocking political news? After all, Obama sent his top pollster to take command of the race in New Jersey. Not only that, Obama was featured in most of Corzine’s advertising and visited multiple times, including the day before the New Jersey election! Not to mention, Obama campaigned for Deeds multiple times while the Democratic Governors Association and the Democratic National Committee spent $10 million on Deeds’ campaign. Here is the White House’s reaction:
President Obama is not planning to watch Tuesday nights election returns, Obama aides Robert Gibbs and David Axelrod tell CNN.
Obama is more likely to watch Tuesday night’s Chicago Bulls game than any political coverage, according to Axelrod.
The president’s senior staff have also decided not to hold a watch party to keep an eye on election returns as they come in.
The epic downplay maneuver! Bravo White House… Bravo! Glad to know that all of the campaigning trips you have made to New Jersey and Virginia weren’t worth your time to at least watch. Apparently that was valuable time wasted while you could of been making a decision on what to do in Afghanistan. Reminder: Without the proper resources, our troops are in danger over there. Just thought I’d let you know!
As for the liberal mainstream media, you know they’re at their news desk with a devilish grin while finger-pecking away on their computer keyboards. It’s still early, but here is what one liberal media source had to say on the issue:
Advice to readers about the coming orgy of analysis about the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial elections: Ignore it. Disquisitions on The Meaning of It All for President Obama or the 2009 results as a harbinger for Congress in 2010 have scant basis in reality.
Over-interpreting election results is an occupational hazard for political reporters. This problem is particularly acute in the year after a presidential contest, when we are suffering from a bad case of electoral withdrawal.
Of course, there are years in which a president’s political woes contributed to his party’s poor showing in the off-year elections and the congressional midterms. The prime example is Bill Clinton’s experience of 1993-94, in which Republican gubernatorial victories presaged a shellacking in Congress. Democrats lost the House (down 54 seats) and Senate (down eight) — and then Clinton went on to win reelection. The next best example is George W. Bush in 2005-06, in which Democratic gubernatorial wins paved the way for large gains in the House (plus 31 seats) and Senate (plus 6).
Thank you liberal Ms. Marcus for making the conservative’s point. Clinton’s presidential woes contributed to the Democrats poor showing in off-year elections and the congressional midterms. Do you really think President Obama doesn’t have any woes now or in the future!? The man has spent our country into oblivion and plans on continuing his pattern towards socialism! The main reason Bill Clinton got re-elected was because the Republican majorities caused Clinton to return to the center of the political spectrum. So yes… The off-year elections of last night do matter and hold somewhat of a significance for what’s to come.
Ms. Marcus goes on to perform a classic liberal move in her article:
So it’s possible, for example, that Obama’s performance has turned off some of the Virginians who voted for him last year and played a role in the race between Democrat R. Creigh Deeds and Republican Bob McDonnell. But Deeds was a lousy candidate, McDonnell a far more adept one. Virginia is a purple state, but purple with a decidedly reddish tinge.
But as to the question of whether Tuesday’s results portend very much for Congress in 2010 or Obama in 2012, the answer is: not really, all the commentary notwithstanding.
One of the most used tactics by the far-left: Start demonizing. Not to mention, Creigh Deeds is one of their own… They will throw anyone under the bus if it benefits themselves just a smidge. There is no loyalty in the progressive circle.
Side-Note: Unfortunately for liberals, Obama is a lot more radical than he portrayed during his campaign. His massive government spending and deficits (without results) will lead to his defeat in the 2012 election.
I’m calling it.
*UPDATE*
Nancy Pelosi believes the Democrats won last night…
Yup! Your not going blind and you read that correctly… Talk about trying to downplay the Republican domination that occurred in last night’s elections:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she sees no need to be worried by Republican victories in two governors races last night, because for her the news was all good.
“From my perspective, we won last night,” said Pelosi (D-Calif.), referring to the New York special election for the House seat previously held by Republican Rep. John McHugh. “We had one race were engaged in.”

This lady is so delusional it’s hilarious! How is Pelosi the Speaker!? I mean, come on! Maybe I’m giving the Democratic Party too much credit here, but there’s got to more intelligent Democrats in Congress than this loony tune.
Reminder to Pelosi: Bill Owens, from New York’s 23rd congressional district, campaigned against the government/consumer/public/whatever-you-want-to-call-it option! He’s got to run again in 2010, and if he wants to keep his current win longer he will have to appeal to the conservative district he’s in.
+1 for Republicans | ZERO for Pelosi.
